Off Season Update – 30 April

The latest from our players and coaches in the NBL1 and overseas.

This weekend saw several Brisbane Bullets players on court both in Australia during NBL1's annual Anzac Round and overseas.

Starting in the NZNBL, Tohi Smith-Milner had an outstanding game in the Wellington Saints 111-104 overtime win over Hawkes Bay. Tohi notched a double-double with 24 points, 13 rebounds and four assists in the win. The Saints currently sit on top of the NZNBL ladder after five rounds.

Smith-Milner’s next game for Wellington is on Sunday 5 May against the Manawatu Jets.

On Friday night in the NBL1 North, Sam McDaniel and the Brisbane Capitals coached by Bullets Assistant  Greg Vanderjagt came up just short against Ipswich, going down 96-94. McDaniel continued his strong run of form to start the NBL1 season, with a 25 points,10 rebound double-double while adding four assists and four steals.

Further North on Saturday night, Isaac White and the Mackay Meteors continued their unbeaten start to the season, downig the Rockhampton Rockets 111-102. White starred for the Meteors, finishing with 28 points and 6 rebounds while shooting an efficient 75% from the field, including six of nine from beyond the arc.

On Sunday afternoon in the NBL1 North, Tyrell Harrison put together another strong performance, with 27 points, 13 rebounds and three steals while shooting 71% from the field for the Southern District Spartans against the Sunshine Coast Phoenix. Despite his efforts, the Spartans fell to the Phoenix 80-73.

Next Up in the NBL1 North, Sam McDaniel and the Brisbane Capitals play North Gold Coast on Saturday night.

The following day McDaniel and Harrison will face off when the Spartans and Capitals play at Southern Districts. Isaac White and the Meteors have a bye before returning to the court on Saturday 11 May in Townsville.

In France, Deng Adel had 10 points, two rebounds and two assists in Boulazac’s win over Saint-Chamond. Boulazac currently sit third on the ladder with three games of the regular season remaining.
